$5-Million Resurfacing Project on I-94 Near Mattawan Begins Monday

In the long run the ride will be smoother, but in the short run, you’ll be doing the orange barrel polka along I-94 between Mattawan and Portage according to the team at the Michigan Department of Transportation.

A $5-million resurfacing project will renew 11.3-miles of the interstate highway from the Kalamazoo/Van Buren County line to 12th Street beginning next Monday, August 3rd.

The multi-million investment includes full-depth joint repairs, aggregate shoulder repairs, and new pavement markings all designed to extend the life of the roadway, improve safety, and improve the ride quality for drivers going forward.

MDOT says the project starts Monday and is expected to be complete by Friday, September 18th.

There will be nighttime single-lane closures throughout the run of the project, however, two lanes will be open in each direction during the day for the duration of the project.
