Cleveland-Linco Becomes 4-Way Stop

Andy Barbott and his crew at Barbott Farms & Greenhouse will be happy to know that an increasingly busy intersection just south of their business is being converted to a four-way stop at the end of the week. Especially in light of heavier traffic on Linco Road, the Berrien County Road Commission will transition the intersection to 4-way signage, hopefully making it safer for all travelers in that neighborhood including the high volume generated by Barbott's as well as the ever-growing sports complex just north of that in the Lakeshore School District.

Berrien County Road Commission Traffic Safety & Technology Supervisor Michael Juengling says the change goes into effect on Friday, August 26th. He says that Linco traffic has increased in recent years, which has also resulted in more crashes including a recent fatal crash at that intersection this summer.

Juengling told reporters this morning that the Road Commission "hates to slow people down unnecessarily and make them stop, but for whatever reason, this intersection seems to have been a continuous problem." He notes that while the sheer volume of traffic there did not dictate a four-way stop, the number of accidents established sufficient criteria to force the issue.

Drivers can expect to see additional signage and flagging to warn motorists of the change at the intersection to a four-way stop.

Traffic on Cleveland is considerably more dense with the Kohn Sports Complex, the Lakeshore Rocket Football Field and the Lakeshore Youth Soccer Complex all situated just north of that intersection, and the intersection at Cleveland and Rocky Weed Road which services some of those sports fields.
