The exceptional local talents of the Monday Musical Club of Southwestern Michigan will take the stage on Monday night in St. Joseph to launch the local observance of National Music Week in Michigan's Great Southwest…and you are all invited.
As members of the National Federation of Music Clubs, the Monday Musical Club's Chorus, under the direction of Julia Lindsay will perform in the event starting at 6:30pm on Monday, May 2nd, in Shepherd Hall at the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center in St. Joseph. They will be followed by the Junior Club Officers & Scholarship Winners' Recital. The event is open to the public at no charge.
The performances kick off the National Music Week theme of "Music…Notes for the Future." The National Federation of Music Clubs honors the first full week of May from Sunday to Sunday as National Music Week. The objective of National Music Week is "to create an understanding and appreciation of the value of music in the home, the community, the nation, and the world."
Monday Musical Club of SW Michigan is a member of both the state and national federations and sports a membership of some 200 music lovers in all areas of the arts. There are several tiers of membership available to interested parties.
Monday Musical also sponsors a Junior and Senior Student Club, with members performing monthly at The Whitcomb overlooking Lake Michigan in downtown St. Joseph. The organization also provides musically-inclined youth with scholarships to attend music camps such as Interlochen and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camps in West Michigan.
The National Federation of Music Clubs was founded 118-years ago in 1898, and has grown into one of the world's largest music organizations with members of all ages. It was chartered by the United States Congress and is the only music organization member of the United Nations.
The national organization is dedicated to finding and fostering young musical talent through state and national competitions with members who work to create a dynamic musical and cultural environment in local communities through education and sponsorship of musical events.
