SJ Conybeare Law Firm Expands to Kalamazoo Market

It was a natural progression, given the increasing volume of clients his team was representing in the Kalamazoo courts, and better yet, a young homegrown talent has joined the firm to work from the firm’s new office as a result. Conybeare Law Office, P.C., which is headquartered in St. Joseph, has established a new Kalamazoo office and added a Mattawan native to the team.

Barry Conybeare has announced that Raymond “Ray”  Steadmon has joined the Conybeare Law Office team as an associate attorney. Steadmon will base his personal injury and medical malpractice law practice at the firm’s new Kalamazoo office located at 5985 W. Main Street.

Conybeare says, “Our law firm has represented clients in the Kalamazoo courts for many years.” He adds, “We are excited to have an attorney with Ray’s integrity, legal skills and experience provide a presence for Conybeare Law in the community.” Conybeare notes that Steadmon and his extended family have deep roots in the Kalamazoo area and throughout Southwest Michigan, and that Ray’s  compassion for people going through some of their toughest times due to a life-changing injury or loss of a loved one aligns with his firm’s mission to protect client rights and make their lives better.

After attending Mattawan High School, Steadmon earned his B.A. and B.S. degrees from Ferris State University in 2005. He earned his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law and obtained his Illinois law license in 2009.

Steadmon spent the first six years of his career working as a trial lawyer at a Chicago law firm handling personal injury and medical malpractice cases. In 2015, he and his family decided to move home to Michigan’s Great Southwest, so he obtained his Michigan law license and joined a Detroit-based personal injury and medical malpractice law firm operating their Kalamazoo office where he worked until recently joining Conybeare Law.  Steadmon is licensed and actively handles cases in Michigan and Illinois. Over the course of his career, he has helped recover millions of dollars in compensation for his clients.

In recognition of his professional and ethical conduct, this year Steadmon was named a Michigan “Super Lawyer Rising Star” and in each year from 2013-2016, he was named an Illinois “Super Lawyer Rising Star.” Those are honors only given to the top 2.5-percent of all attorneys under the age of 40 throughout each state.

Additionally, The National Trial Lawyers, a professional invite-only organization comprised of each state’s top trial lawyers, listed Steadmon as one of Michigan’s top 40 attorneys under 40 years of age this year and, in 2016, one of Illinois’ top 40 attorneys under 40. In 2015 and 2016, he was selected as an “Illinois Emerging Lawyer” by the Leading Lawyers Network, and in 2015, he was named as one of the Top 10 Personal Injury Attorneys Under 40 in Illinois by The National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys as well.

Steadmon was recently appointed to serve on the Executive Committee of Michigan Association for Justice. He has also started and served as the Chair of the Young Lawyer’s Section of the International Society of Primerus Law Firms – a prestigious organization made up of over 3,000 attorneys in nearly 50 countries around the world. Steadmon has given numerous presentations on ending distracted driving and has written many articles for the legal profession.

He and his wife, Amber, and their daughter, Lilliana Ray, reside in Portage, outside of Kalamazoo.

Steadmon’s new team, Conybeare Law Office, is the largest full-service personal injury firm in Southwest Michigan. Headquartered in St. Joseph at 519 Main Street, the firm recently added their second office in Kalamazoo at 5985 W. Main Street. The firm’s attorneys provide representation for victims of automobile accidents, medical malpractice, premise liability and animal attacks as well as worker’s compensation and social security disability claims.
