If you can trace your family tree back as far as Steve Wright can trace his, you might want to get one of his amazing steaks to celebrate the historic lineage you’ve been able to master. Steve Wright is backed by seven full generations of family farming, and the unmistakable quality he brings to your table is testimony to the work that family has undertaken to earn a sterling reputation.
That’s seven generations as the guiding hand behind Wright Farms Market in Dowagiac. Steve himself, as owner of Wright Farms Market has been raising cattle his entire life. The cattle are all raised locally on the family farm and on neighboring farms. Additionally, the cattle are hormone & steroid free, having been treated with antibiotics only if absolutely necessary.
Wright Farms’ cattle are grain fed which he tells us, “produces a delectable, marbled steak.” The market also offers farm fresh pork, chicken and lamb.
The Wright family started sharing their prowess by selling their meat at local farmer’s markets around Michigan’s Great Southwest. They actually retrofitted a travel trailer to hold three freezers in moving from market to market along the circuit. As their stock in trade grew, so did their reputation and customers began to request additional items. Soon they added Farm Fresh Eggs from Jody’s Happy Hens. They, too, were a hit. Local honey from the Lehman family in Middlebury, Indiana was another popular addition to the rolling stock.
Late this past winter, Steve Wright and his family responded to the increasing customer demand and their call for the ability to shop year round. They did so by establishing a new retail location at 111 W. Railroad Street, one block north of Historic Downtown Dowagiac. The new Wright Farms Market is anchored in the Donker’s Shopping Plaza, where they will conduct their official Grand Opening on Saturday, June 16th.
Everyone is invited to join Wright Farms Market for that Grand Opening on Saturday the 16th from 10am to 2pm, with a live Y Country Radio (97.5 FM) radio broadcast from 10am until noon. That live broadcast will include ticket giveaways for the Y-Country Summer Jam in August, and your chance to register to win a Kenmore grill, grilling packages and more. It will also afford you the opportunity to sample their pulled pork, brats and Southwest Brand Pepper Sauces from 10am to 2pm.
Growing up on Sesquicentennial farm has instilled a great pride in the products that Wright offers. His retail location first opened at the end of March, and he has also partnered with Nature’s Blessed Coloma Foods to offer the largest selection of frozen, premium fruits & vegetables in the local area at the market. Many of those items are grown right here in Michigan’s Great Southwest.
Wright Farms Market also offers Amish made pies and baked goods from The Bread Box Bakery in Shipshewana, Indiana.
Steve Wright has taken great pride in sourcing many local items as well. You will find two different lines of hot sauces on the shelves at his market. In fact, one line of sauce (AmberFyre) is from a fellow alum of the Dowagiac Farm & Artisan Market. The other, Southwest Brand Pepper Sauces is the brain child of Chef Amos Miller and his wife Janet. They bill them as “Pepper sauces with personality.”
The Maple Row Sugarhouse in Jones, Michigan is another great local partner providing maple syrup to Wright Farms Market. The market is open from 11am until 7pm, Sunday through Friday and from 9am until 7pm on Saturdays. You can learn more by logging onto their website at the link below.
