If you’ve ever wondered how people end up serving on various boards and advisory panels and thought to yourself, “Hey, I could do that,” you’re right. In fact, the opportunity is at hand right now to join one of several boards that Berrien County has vacancies on that need to be filled.
As a result, the county is reaching out in search of volunteers to fill those vacancies. Anyone interested in serving may contact the Berrien County Administration office at 269-983-7111, ext. 8095 or email akrieger@berriencounty.org, or download an application from the www.berriencounty.org website. The acceptance period is open through Friday, August 30, 2019.
Here’s what they are looking for at the moment:
- The Mental Health Authority has one vacancy and oversees the Riverwood Center. Their mission is to deliver personalized mental health services to create a positive environment for their consumers to improve their quality of life. The composition of the Mental Health Authority shall be representative of providers of mental health services, recipients or primary consumers of mental health services, agencies, and occupations having a working involvement with mental health services and the general public. The terms for the Mental Health Authority are three years and the meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 4:00 pm at the Riverwood Center located at 1485 S. M-139 in Benton Harbor.
- The Berrien County Board of Health has a vacancy. The Board of Health provides policy leadership and oversight for the Health Department. The Board of Health is comprised of seven individuals that are appointed by the Berrien County Board of Commissioners. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 8:00 am at the Health Department at 2149 E. Napier in Benton Harbor. The applicant must be a person licensed in Michigan to practice medicine (M.D. or D.O). The term is for five years.
- The Berrien County Parks & Recreation Commission has one vacancy. It is the mission of the Berrien County Parks and Recreation Commission to plan, acquire, develop and maintain, a responsive, efficient and creative natural resource based park and recreation system available to all citizens. The Parks & Recreation Commission consists of nine members including the County Drain Commissioner, a member of the Planning Commission, and seven members appointed by the Board of Commissioners. The residence of the applicant shall be considered when determining the appointment. Meetings are held at 5:30 pm, 4-to-5 times a year at various locations. The term is for three years.
