The next Superintendent of the Lakeshore Public Schools won’t have to give up his proximity to the Lake Michigan Shore, he’ll just be further south along that shore from his current home in Zeeland as he takes up his new role with the district following the decision by the Lakeshore Board of Education to hire him.
Last night, Monday, March 22nd, the Lakeshore Board moved forward on hiring Zeeland High School Principal Greg Eding as their next Superintendent of Schools, contingent upon successful contract negotiations.
The Board interviewed two final candidates during the open process. Jason Misner, Superintendent of Parchment Schools, was the other finalist. The candidates presented their proposed 90-Day Entry Plans into the school district and community, and the Board asked questions of each candidate during and after the presentations by each candidate. After deliberations the board unanimously approved the hiring of Eding.
Board President, Dr. Jason Beckrow, says, “Mr. Eding’s calm, stable leadership; his focus on collaboration and continuous improvement; and his passion for children and for the Lakeshore community will serve the district well. His plan for the next 90 days includes enhancing relationships and partnerships, increasing the use of relevant data, establishing a team first culture, fostering community engagement and ensuring staff support. The Board looks forward to working with him to drive that work and more well into the future.”
Eding has served the Zeeland Public Schools since 2004. He was the middle school principal for twelve years, prior to becoming the high school principal in 2016. Previously, he was the assistant principal of Chandler Woods Charter Academy for three years and served National Heritage Academies as its educational technology manager. He also taught and coached in the Hamilton Community Schools for six years.
Board President Beckrow, Kevin Bushu and Jeff Hannan will serve as a committee to negotiate and recommend a contract for Eding to the Board.
Throughout the process the board received guidance from the Michigan Leadership Institute and input from the staff and community, with Beckrow saying, “We’re incredibly grateful to the administrators, teachers and community members who gave us their thoughts on various candidates throughout this process,” concluding, “We will rely on everyone’s passion for Lakeshore and our students to continue to move the district forward.”
