A South Bend commercial contractor specializing in electrical, infrastructure and telecommunications work is expanding into Southwest Michigan with plans to build a new 10,000 square foot facility on nearly 3-acres of land fronting I-94 in Benton Harbor.
Martell Electric, LLC has announced their acquisition of 2.8 acres of vacant land at 2450 Townline Road in Benton Harbor, on the south side of I-94 west of the Pipestone Road exit.
At that site, Martell and sister company Ideal Consolidated, a mechanical contractor, plan to build a 10,000-square-foot office and warehouse, with completion scheduled for 2022. Both companies are part of Martell Services Group, Inc., based in South Bend, Indiana.
John Martell, CEO, says, “We are thrilled to expand our presence in southwest Michigan and look forward to broader involvement in this wonderful community,” and adds, “We really see the area as a key component of our overall growth strategy.”
The company’s office in St. Joseph, will be closed upon completion of the new southwest Michigan hub in Benton Harbor.
Martell Services Group, Inc. is a holding company established in 2020 to include both Martell Electric, LLC, and Ideal Consolidated Inc.
In February of 2021, the ownership of Martell Services Group was transferred to their non-bargaining employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Martell Electric was formed in 2001 and began operations in 2003. Their services span electrical, infrastructure and highway specialty, and telecommunications and fiber optics for commercial, industrial, institutional and government projects.
Ideal Consolidated is a mechanical contractor specializing in commercial, industrial, and institutional piping, plumbing, and sheet metal work. The companies are based in South Bend, however Martell Electric also currently has offices in Elkhart and St. Joseph.
