Summer Arts Camps: France Edition at ARS Arts And Culture Center

ARS Art Camp is offering Berrien County youths a chance to hone their abilities as artists this summer. It’s holding Art Camp in June. ARS tells us more:

This summer, ARS Arts Camp celebrates 12 years of cultural arts! Arts Camp is offered to area youth from 7-18 years of age. Something new for ARS, we will hold a separate class for advanced 12-year-olds. Classes will be broken up by age group as follows:
7-9, 10-11, and exclusive groups for advanced students age 12, “Young Teens Camp.”

Students will explore the creative and cultural history of France. Using a wide variety of resources and art supplies, talented teaching artists guide students to develop critical thinking and visual problem-solving skills. ARS camps start with raw materials and offer students the unlimited freedom to create art that is uniquely individual and personal – all while having fun!

Camps will take place at ARS Arts & Culture Center, located at 147 Fifth Street in Benton Harbor.

Youth Camp I, for ages 7 through 12, is scheduled from Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 24, 12-4 pm. In this session, students will go on a creative journey, learning about various art forms of France. This camp will touch upon French cultural history while delving into creative multimedia projects such as mosaic, sculpture, painting, and more. The cost for this session is $165.

The second camp is a Teen Open Studio Camp, for ages 13 through 18, scheduled from Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15, 12-4 pm. Teens will create and develop original works of art as they are exposed to various art techniques, processes, and concepts with a focus on developing their own style as they create art in an open-studio environment. They will have opportunities in painting, sculpture, mosaics, and more. The cost for this session is $185.

As has been customary at the end of each week ARS will have a mini artist reception on the last day of camp. Campers’ friends and family members are invited to attend a reception during which they can view work created throughout the week, conversing and engaging with the students about their pieces.
