St. Joseph residents spent the day cleaning up after Thursday night’s ‘tussle with Mother Nature’. Lots of trees down, branches ripped off and patio umbrellas sent swirling through the neighborhood.

Power outages were still widespread at mid-afternoon. Indiana Michigan Power reported about 4500 customers still out and predicted 90 percent of them would be back up by 11pm Friday.
So-called ‘backyard outages’ are the most challenging for electric repair crews because they must be fixed one at a time, rather than restoring an entire community by repairing a substation or major transmission line.
