On Monday, February 6, the Van Buren County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Board seated two new members, Kurt Doroh and Stephanie Timmer.
Kurt Doroh is a current Van Buren County Commissioner serving the third district. He has served on the Van Buren County Planning Commission for twelve years and was the Executive Director of the Van Buren County Habitat for Humanity for two years. Stephanie Timmer is the Senior Vice President of Sturgis Bank serving the Western Market Region-South Haven and Bangor. She is the Chair for the City of South Haven’s Local Development Finance Authority and Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.
Tom Stanek, The Economic Development Corporation’s Board Chair is thankful for a diverse board with experience in areas like real estate, small business, and banking. “We are excited about the caliber of people on this board advising how Van Buren County can continue to support business growth throughout our community,” said Stanek.
The primary function of the Economic Development Corporation is to oversee the County’s Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) program. Additionally, the Economic Development Corporation receives updates on economic development efforts and supports such efforts as appropriate. Market Van Buren is the local economic development organization that gives economic updates and helps manage the RLF program with the County.
Zach Morris, Executive Director of Market Van Buren and the Secretary of the EDC Board is excited to see the board continue to grow with new members who have a passion for economic development in the community. “Market Van Buren is happy to see growth on the EDC Board with new members who share the passion to build on our strong foundation. We have already made progress in key areas, such as providing loans during COVID for small businesses, advocating for broadband internet throughout our communities, and continued businesses expansion and retention support programs. We are excited to continue to build on this with the support of our new members,” said Morris.
