The public is being invited to stop by Silver Beach in St. Joseph this coming Thursday to offer input on three design concepts for the new playground.
Berrien County Parks Director Jill Adams tells us the county has received an $850,000 grant for new playground equipment. It’s been working with a design firm on possibilities, and parks staff will be at the beach to show everyone what they’ve come up with.
“The parks staff fully understands that the current playground is amazing, and we all spent a lot of time on the playground ourselves, whether it was as people were growing up, and in my case, with my family,” Adams said. “We want to try to bring something that brings that much joy to people.”
Adams says the new playground will have improved accessibility. The parks department wants it to be a “showcase playground on Lake Michigan.”
They’ll be at Silver Beach Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. with the concepts. In the event of rain, the display will be at Shadowland on Silver Beach.
You can also check out the designs online.
The parks department is currently raising $400,000 to reach the $1.25 total needed for the playground, and anyone can make a donation through the Berrien Community Foundation.
