Hobie cat enthusiasts and photographers are watching Lake Michigan for a new sailing event today and tomorrow.
The Wave 100 race left South Haven for St. Joseph today, then continues on to New Buffalo tomorrow and then Michiggan City.
The hobie cats are expected to arrive at Tiscornia Beach in St. Joseph for an overnight stay before sailing to New Buffalo on Wednesday.
Organizers say the hobie cat races are a way for the average person to get into racing without spending a lot of money on a big, fancy boat. The hobies are only 13 feet long and relatively affordable. Pre-registration for the event was required.
The event is sponsored by The Hobie Class Association of North America.
