A ribbon cutting and dedication are planned for a new sidewalk in Lincoln Township.
The new sidewalk along John Beers Road from Roosevelt to the Stevensville village limits has been planned for more than ten years, but it wasn’t until 2023 that the state allocated $400,000 for the project to get started.
Lincoln Township Supervisor Glenn Youngstedt tells us there have been some traffic headaches while the sidewalk work was done, but it’s almost finished. Residents are excited to have a pedestrian path from neighborhoods in the township into the village of Stevensville.
“We’re getting some really positive comments from that,” Youngstedt said. “Very few comments on the traffic disruption, which is nice. I think people realize, hey, we got to do that to get the sidewalk in.”
Youngstedt says they’ll hold the ribbon cutting on the new sidewalk June 4.
“We’re doing that in conjunction with the village because it’s connecting the village with the rest of the township and the library. The library is really excited about that because it’s going to be safer for kids and moms to come to the library.”
Everyone will gather out in front of the library, and Youngstedt says a little procession down the new sidewalk may follow. Everyone’s invited to join the celebration at 2 p.m. on June 4.
The sidewalk was made possible with that $400,000 state allocation, a $500,000 grant, and about $25,000 in township funds.
