Berrien County is making it easy for residents to safely dispose of unwanted electronics, household chemicals, and more at a special Community Recycling Event on Tuesday, June 3. The collection will take place from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Chikaming Township Hall, 13535 Red Arrow Highway in Harbert.
Coordinated by the Berrien County Parks Department, this is a drive-through-only event—residents must stay in their vehicles while staff and volunteers handle all unloading.
Two main types of items will be accepted:
Electronics – If it has a cord or runs on batteries, it’s welcome. That includes everything from old phones and computers to microwaves and power tools. Fees apply for select items: $10 for computer monitors, $20 for TVs, and $10 for appliances with Freon like refrigerators and dehumidifiers. Green Earth Electronics Recycling will handle these collections.
Household Hazardous Waste – Bring old cleaners, garden chemicals, batteries, smoke detectors, fluorescent bulbs, cosmetics, and home medical waste (pills, sharps, aerosols). Note: Latex paint is not accepted. Sharps must be in puncture-proof containers, and pills should be placed in zip-lock bags without the original bottles.
