Michigan regulators have ordered Viridis Laboratories, a major marijuana testing company, to cease operations following a years-long legal dispute.
The Cannabis Regulatory Agency announced Wednesday that Viridis’ Lansing licenses have been revoked and its Bay City location must close by Sept. 28, 2025. The CRA also banned majority owners Todd Welch, Gregoire Michaud and Michele Glinn from future participation in the cannabis industry.
The agency began reviewing Viridis’ methods in 2020 after allegations that staff inflated THC potency levels and approved products that should have failed testing. In 2021, regulators recalled nearly 64,000 pounds of marijuana tested by Viridis, though a portion of that $292 million recall was later overturned by a judge.
“This is justice, plain and simple,” CRA Director Brian Hanna said in a statement. “Viridis failed to uphold the standards required of marijuana safety compliance facilities in Michigan.”
The company and regulators have been involved in multiple lawsuits. Viridis has argued it was unfairly targeted because of its large share of the testing market.
The CRA is developing its own state-run testing lab, expected to open in 2026, to strengthen oversight and audit results.
