Whirlpool Corp. announces layoffs in Benton Harbor as part of ongoing global reorganization

A relatively small number of employees at Whirlpool Corporation in Benton Harbor are receiving notice today that their jobs are being eliminated as part of ongoing global restructuring.

Without providing specific numbers, Whirlpool Corporation officials confirmed fewer “than 25 global roles located in Benton Harbor” will be impacted.

Company officials say the move is another step in the company’s evolution.

“To meet the dynamic needs of our consumers, we are integrating our global product development and engineering teams directly into our company’s business units of North America, Latin America, Asia, and KitchenAid Small Appliances. This will provide our business units with greater autonomy and decision-making to unlock faster market responsiveness, consumer-focused product development, and critical innovation.”

Whirlpool officials say affected employees will receive comprehensive transition benefits, including severance. The company continues to employ about 44,000 people worldwide.

In a number of statements related to the company’s poor performance, CEO Marc Bitzer has stressed the company is working to position itself for the eventual U.S. housing recovery. In 2024, the company said it delivered $300 million in cost take out, primarily through role elimination and business consolidations. In 2025, the company has said their cost take out target is $200 million.
