Corewell Health is rolling out a new enhanced text messaging system.

Corewell Chief Information Officer Jason Joseph tells us the new upgrade will make it easier for patients to manage appointments and more through the existing text messaging system.

Patients can not only get the notification, but they can also interact with many of those messages, which may be things like, hey, I need to actually cancel or reschedule an appointment,” Joseph said. “They can actually customize their preferences of what notifications they receive right from their MyChart account. It has support for multiple languages.”

The system will also allow patients to add information about family members. Joseph says this all builds on Corewell’s current system, but there could be an AI element coming.

“It is not AI yet, but part of this capability will allow us to have some AI that will sit on top of us in the relatively near future, which will give even more of a conversational experience to our patients and make it even easier to interact with the technology.”

The new texting system will enable patients to manage their appointments with no manual intervention by team members, giving them time to focus on other tasks.

Joseph says patients don’t need to do anything to sign up for it if they’re already receiving Corewell texts. Anyone who doesn’t get text alerts can sign up for them via MyChart. The new system will launch on October 22.
