Improvements are coming to Lincoln Township Beach now that the township board of trustees has approved a resolution accepting a $350,000 grant from the state for the work.
At a meeting this week, trustees took that action while also approving a project management contract with engineering firm Williams and Works. Interim Township Manager Michael Brown told us the work will make it easier for people to reach the beach after erosion in 2020 forced the township to close the access drive.
“So everything’s proceeding,” Brown said. “So the citizens should have a new parking area entrance to the beach next year. So we’re pretty excited about that.”
Once the new parking area is open, people will no longer have to park in front of the closed gate and walk the rest of the way to the beach. Brown says the pieces are falling into place to get started.
“We’re going to submit all our paperwork to the DNR here in December and then everything should go really smooth starting in the spring with our engineers.”
The project’s total cost will be about $500,000 with a $150,000 match from the township.
Brown said the township is also seeking a second grant to build new restrooms at the beach after the erosion forced the permanent closure of the previous structure. While it’s waiting to hear back from the state on that grant application, porta potties will be installed at the park.
