Coloma High School program offers assistance with basic personal care items

Coloma High School (CHS) recently implemented its Student Dignity Program, an effort to equip all students with basic necessity personal-care items. Supported through a local Acorn Grant of $500 awarded to Greg Shaffer, CHS counselor, the program has already begun serving the student body in big ways.

Through this initiative, all students have access to toiletries including deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and more through discreetly placed bins in student restrooms. This allows students to take what they need, when they need it, confidentially and respectfully.

“The Student Dignity Program is filling a need for our students and has already garnered overwhelming support and appreciation,” Shaffer said. “We know that to show up to school our students need to feel confident in themselves. Even our staff have noticed an encouraging boost in students’ confidence and overall well-being as a result.”

To help sustain and grow the program, community members can donate items through the Amazon Wish List.
