Benton Harbor Area Schools has hired a new high school principal.
The board of education this week appointed Keith Sanders, a Benton Harbor graduate, to the post.
The district says Sanders comes to the high school with extensive experience in school improvement and academic turnaround work. He previously served as the CEO of the Keith Sanders Group, as chief officer of school turnaround for the Delaware Department of Education, and co-founder and principal of Miller McCoy Academy. District leaders say his background in strengthening school culture and raising achievement will help guide the high school’s continued progress.
Also this week, the district announced Latasha Heggler-Thomas has been named its new director of special education. She moves into her new role after nearly 20 years in education, including work as an instructional facilitator, classroom teacher, and interim principal.
The district says both appointments align with its mission to prepare students for success.
