AAA has activated its Tow to Go program for the holidays.

AAA of Michigan spokesperson Adrienne Woodland tells us Tow to Go is a way for someone who’s had too much to drink to avoid getting behind the wheel.

“Tow to Go provides a free confidential ride until for impaired drivers and their vehicles to a safe location within a 10 mile radius” Woodland said. “The program is open to both AAA members and non members and it’s designed as a last resort safety net when other options like a designated driver or ride share fall through.”

The service will be active from 6 p.m. today, December 24, through 6 a.m. on Friday, January 2. Woodland stresses Tow to Go should be viewed as a last resort, and anyone who’s going to be out celebrating should make arrangements to get home safely in advance.

“So AAA again urges Michigan drivers to plan ahead and make responsible choices.”

Tow to Go can be reached by calling 855-2-TOW-2-GO. Woodland says it cannot be scheduled in advance and should only be a fallback option for getting home.

Since starting in 1998, Tow to Go has helped nearly 30,000 people get home safely.
