The Paw Paw/Lawton Masonic Lodge has made another financial contribution to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department’s SafetyPup Program, helping to keep children safe in the community.
Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbott tells us SafetyPup sends sheriff’s deputies out to elementary schools across the county to share safety materials provided by the National Child Safety Council.
“We get into the schools, we hand out the different brochures and education materials, such as if you see child abuse, abuse at home, are you being abused, improper touching, things like that,” Abbott said.
Abbott says all of the materials are well-vetted to ensure they’re appropriate for the kids.
“Basically talking in their language. So if something bad is going on, they can feel comfortable to going to an adult.”
Abbott says the sheriff’s department has taken part in SafetyPup since he came on board, and the Paw Paw/Lawton Masonic Lodge has made multiple donations to support it. He says contributions like the lodge’s help the sheriff’s department continue delivering meaningful safety education to young people each day.
Abbott extended his appreciation to the lodge for its continued generosity.
