Special education teacher Kellie Lynch is the winner of this year’s Berrien RESA Special Education Parent Advisory Committee Excellence in Education Award.

Berrien RESA Superintendent Eric Hoppstock tells us the award is given out each year to celebrate special education staff — whether they’re teachers, administrators, or support staff. Lynch was selected for her work with students with severe emotional impairments.

Hoppstock read some quotes from colleagues of Lynch about her qualities as an educator.

She is profoundly human with her students, modeling vulnerability and honesty, allowing her students to feel seen rather than judged. She offers empathetic understanding and insight, ensuring her students can recognize their own strengths before they ever ask to tackle their weaknesses. own strengths before they ever ask to tackle their weaknesses. She celebrates her students for exactly who they are.”

Hoppstock calls that pretty high praise.

Lynch works at RESA’s Lighthouse Education Center and received her honor Tuesday at the Parent Advisory Committee’s 22nd Annual Excellence in Education Award reception. Hoppstock says all ten of the nominees are top notch individuals who make a difference every day.
