The city of Buchanan will be installing some new playground equipment at Kathryn Park following action this week by commissioners.

Buchanan City Manager Tony McGhee tells us the board approved the purchase of new equipment for $100,000 from Sinclair Recreation and GameTime after receiving several bids for the project.

“Kathryn Park is one of the oldest parks here in the city of Buchanan,” McGhee said. “It’s traditional, right in the middle of our core neighborhoods near Moccasin Elementary School. It’s been a high priority for the community in our last park and rec plan and some of the commission and our Buchanan Area Recreation Board been working on for a few years now.”

McGhee says the city parks board voted to recommend approval of the bid by commissioners.

The project will be installed using a community build approach. McGhee says under the model, the vendor will provide the equipment, installation plans, and on-site leadership, while city staff and community volunteers will assist with the installation under the vendor’s supervision. He says the approach will enable the city to save money on the project.
