POSH Boutique plans SJ opening after move from New Buffalo

A longtime Harbor Country consignment boutique is making a move up the lakeshore, bringing a well-established resale concept into the heart of downtown St. Joseph just as ‘the season’ begins to build.

POSH Boutique is preparing to open its doors next month, relocating after 13 years in New Buffalo. The women’s consignment shop will debut with a public kickoff event on Friday, May 8 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., inviting the community to “sip, shop and celebrate” inside its new 212 State Street storefront.

The official first full day of business follows on Saturday, May 9, with regular summer hours beginning immediately.

For downtown St. Joe, the addition fits neatly into a retail mix that thrives on walkable shopping and seasonal visitors—but also serves a growing year-round customer base looking for something a little different than traditional retail.

POSH operates as a curated consignment boutique, focusing on gently used, brand-name and designer women’s clothing, shoes and accessories. Unlike a thrift store model, items are selectively accepted and typically presented in a more boutique-style setting—clean, organized and fashion-forward.

How the consignment process works

Based on information from the shop’s website, the process is fairly clear:

  • Sellers (consignors) bring in clothing and accessories that meet the store’s style and condition standards
  • Items are reviewed and selected by the POSH team
  • Accepted items are priced and displayed in the store for a set period
  • When an item sells, the original owner receives a percentage of the sale price
  • Unsold items are either picked up or handled according to store policy

The model gives shoppers access to higher-end brands at more approachable prices, while also giving local residents a way to refresh their closets and earn something back on pieces they’re no longer using.

POSH Boutique’s move from New Buffalo brings with it more than a decade of brand recognition in Southwest Michigan’s lakeshore communities. Store management says interest has already been strong, with curious pedestrians stopping by during the build-out phase along State Street.

That early buzz is a good sign heading into May, when foot traffic in downtown St. Joseph typically starts to ramp up in a meaningful way.

Hours and details

The boutique will operate on a full weekly schedule, including weekend hours:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Friday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Sunday: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Closed Tuesdays

For a downtown that continues to evolve with a mix of new and established businesses, POSH’s arrival adds another option—one that blends fashion, sustainability and a bit of treasure hunting.
