A new restaurant ahead on M-139 at old Country Kitchen location

Old Country Kitchen M139

After more than five years vacant, it appears new life is being breathed into the former Country Kitchen on M-139 in Benton Towship.

Workers have been busy recently doing redecorating and updating on the interior of the building that housed a popular breakfast and lunch eatery for decades.

Informal speculation with some sketchy corroboration suggests that the new restaurant will feature Asian food.  MOTM stopped by the site this week but we were unable to get more than a few nods or one word answers from the workers about what was planned.  And, our efforts to contact the owners of the building, believed to be a company in Kalamazoo, have been unsuccessful.

From what we observed, in addition to social media speculation—which may or may not be accurate–, an Asian themed restaurant would appear to be a reasonable possibility.  We’ve seen much speculation both for and against a Chinese Buffet, as well as some talk about a Sushi-focused place.  Again, we don’t know what will be on the menu.  But, clearly, there is going to be a new restaurant at 2487 M-139.

Country Kitchen closed there in 2020 at the height of the Pandemic and the longtime owners retired.  Restaurant industry watchers have been puzzled why nothing new developed at the site after many years of success as the Country Kitchen on a well traveled road near Exit 28.
