AAA expands ‘Tow to Go’ program during year-end holidays

AAA of Michigan is once again offering its free “Tow to Go” service during the year-end holiday period, aiming to reduce impaired driving and improve roadway safety.

The program is available through 6 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2026. Impaired drivers can call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO for a free, confidential ride and tow to a safe location within a 10-mile radius.

Tow to Go is open to both AAA members and non-members and is intended as a last-resort option when other transportation plans, such as a designated driver or rideshare service, are unavailable. The service cannot be scheduled in advance.

AAA spokesperson Adrienne Woodland said the program is designed to help drivers make safer choices during a time of increased risk on the roads. AAA is encouraging motorists to plan ahead and avoid driving while impaired.

In addition to Michigan, the Tow to Go program will be available in Florida, Georgia, Iowa, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Colorado (Denver), North Carolina (Charlotte), and Indiana (Fort Wayne and South Bend).

According to AAA, alcohol-impaired driving is involved in nearly one-third of all traffic deaths in the United States. In 2023, more than 12,000 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes, an average of one death every 42 minutes.

AAA says Tow to Go is part of its broader traffic safety efforts, including its “Crashes Hit Different” campaign, which emphasizes the human impact behind crash statistics and promotes prevention through responsible decision-making.
