AAA says travel summer plans remain positive

AAA says there’s good news for people and businesses dependent on tourist dollars. Economic worries are not damping travel plans.

In a new survey from AAA, 60% of Michiganders plan to take a trip this summer. That’s up from 52% last year, highlighting a continued upward trend in travel intentions.

“Despite economic uncertainties, Americans still prioritize vacations as an essential part of life,” said Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Whether it’s a relaxing beach escape, an adventurous road trip or a cruise, people view summer travel as a vital way to invest in their well-being and create lasting memories.”

According to the survey, 35% of Michigan residents plan to take more vacations this summer, while 42% plan to take about the same number as last year. However, 23% will take fewer trips, with 47% citing personal financial concerns and 39% worried about the economy as primary reasons.

Where are Michiganders heading for summer vacation? The survey showed the travel love is spread across (mostly) all things nature.

37% – Beach Destinations
33% – National/state parks
33% – Lake Destinations
30% – City/Major Metro Destinations
20% – Theme Parks

June and July are set to be the peak months for summer vacations among Michigan residents, with 44% opting to travel in June and 55% in July.

“The best vacation value is secured by planning ahead,” said Haas. “Booking early ensures travelers get the ideal combination of price, availability, and choice. Waiting too long could mean missing out on preferred destinations, accommodations or deals.”
