AAA Tow to Go program activates for July Fourth holiday period

As Michiganders prepare for what’s expected to be a bustling Independence Day weekend, AAA is once again stepping up to ensure safe roads across the state. The group announced the reactivation of its popular “Tow to Go” program, a free and confidential service designed to provide a crucial last resort for impaired drivers and their vehicles.

With nearly 700,000 stranded drivers anticipated nationwide during the holiday week, AAA is emphasizing the importance of planning for a sober ride. However, for those unforeseen moments when plans fall through, Tow to Go offers a vital lifeline, helping prevent tragic outcomes on Michigan roadways and beyond.

“By offering Tow to Go, AAA helps ensure there’s no excuse for impaired driving,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group.

“While we always urge everyone to plan ahead for a safe ride, if your plans change at the last minute, we’re here as a confidential last resort to help you get home safely.”

The “Tow to Go” program will be available in Michigan starting at 6 PM on Friday, July 4th, and running through 6 AM on Monday, July 7th. This service is not just for AAA members; it’s open to everyone, regardless of membership status, and provides a free, confidential ride and tow within a 10-mile radius. It cannot be scheduled in advance, making it ideal for those unexpected situations where a safe ride is suddenly needed.

To access the service, simply call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO.

Impaired driving continues to be a huge contributing factor in traffic fatalities. Nationally, nearly one-third of all U.S. traffic deaths involve drunk drivers, and in 2023 alone, a staggering 12,429 lives were lost in alcohol-related crashes. This translates to a life lost every 42 minutes.
