Another step forward for proposed apartment complex in Lincoln Township

The project to construct a new 200-unit apartment complex at the site of the former Snow Flake Motel at 3822 Red Arrow Highway in Lincoln Township has taken another step forward.

At a Tuesday meeting, the Lincoln Township Board of Trustees held its first reading on a rezoning request for two parcels at the site. The board’s rezoning vote came on a township planning commission recommendation made in April. Trustee Marc Florian, who serves on the planning commission, told us Tuesday there are still more steps.

“We’ve got a meeting — I believe it’s on the 23rd — to consider their request for planned unit development, and I’m very eager to see those plans…I think it’s a great project conceptually,” Florian said. “I look forward to seeing what materializes in their final plan.”

The PUD request would also later be taken up by the full township board.

Township Supervisor Glenn Youngstedt noted there was no public comment on the project’s rezoning during Tuesday’s meeting.

“We didn’t have anybody say anything about it because I think they’re all pretty well spring-loaded that this is what they want,” Youngstedt said. “And when I attended the county planning commission meeting, when they approved it, there was no discussion. It was full speed ahead.”

Youngstedt says it’s only a bit unfortunate there are so many hurdles the developers have to clear to get started.

Up next, the township board will hold a second and final reading on the rezoning, and then comes the PUD question.

Great Lakes Capital out of South Bend is planning the new Red Arrow Bluffs complex. If all goes well, the complex could be ready for residents to move in next year.
