The Region IV Area Agency on Aging in St. Joseph is planning its next Legislative Forum for next month.

The Area Agency on Aging says the public will have a chance to speak directly with its state lawmakers about issues affecting older adults at the 19th annual event.

The forum will be held April 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Campus for Creative Aging in St. Joseph. The event is open to seniors, caregivers, people with disabilities, and professionals who work in aging services.

Area Agency on Aging CEO Christine Vanlandingham says decisions made in Lansing have a direct impact on the quality of life for Michigan seniors, and this is a chance for all concerned residents to chime in. State Representative Joey Andrews, state Representative Steve Carra, and state Senator Jonathan Lindsey are expected to attend, along with staff from state Senator Aric Nesbitt’s office.

In addition, the forum will serve as a public hearing for the agency’s next Multi-Year Plan, which influences how federal Older Americans Act and state Older Michiganians Act funds will be spent on Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties through 2029. Additional hearings on that plan will be held in April in South Haven and Cassopolis. We have the schedule below.

Additional Public Hearings will be held:

– 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 15 at Senior Services of Van Buren County, 8337 M-140, South Haven
– 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 at Cass County Council on Aging, 60525 Decatur Rd, Cassopolis
