Armed Robber Hits Dowagiac Marathon

Not only did an armed robber hold up the clerk of a service station in Dowagiac late last night, he also stole the wallet of a customer who ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Steven Grinnewald is Director of Public Safety for the City of Dowagiac and he's hopeful somebody will recognize the brazen robber from the photo captured by the station's security cameras.

Grinnewald says that his team is investigating the armed robbery last night at 10:41pm at the Marathon gas station located at 801 Spruce Street in the city. His officers spoke with not only the clerk at the station, but also the customer who was also held up by the gunman who took his wallet. He also walked off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the Marathon cash register.

Both victims told police that the masked gunman walked in wielding a handgun an demanding cash from the register. He was last seen leaving the station headed eastward on foot. A Cass County Sheriff's Department K-9 attempted to track the suspect, to no avail.

Grinnewald is hopeful somebody will recognize the gunman from the photo. He is described as a black male, approximately 6-foot-1, around 200Lbs, and unknown age. The gunman was wearing a long sleeve gray shirt, black jeans with some sort of design or logo on the right rear pocket, and gray shoes. He was also wearing some type of black covering on his face and head as well as black gloves.

Dowagiac Police were assisted by Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Department and Michigan State Police troopers. The robbery remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Dowagiac Police Department at 269-782-9743 or the Cass County Tip Line at 1-800-462-9328.
