If you’re looking to celebrate all things green without having to spend a lot of your own long green, get ready for a seriously great Spring Art Hop which delightfully happens to land directly on St. Patrick’s Day next week.
If you’re still in search of where to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Southwest Michigan, your search is over. Make plans to hit the Benton Harbor’s Arts District next Friday as they toast the Emerald Isle with art, music, film and food during the annual Spring Art Hop, from 5-to-9pm on March 17.
Organized by the New Territory Arts Association (NTAA), the Spring Art Hop will feature nearly a dozen entertainment venues, all within walking distance of one another.
Here’s some of what you can look forward to at each stop:
- 210 Water Street will have an impressive stable of artists on hand to meet art hoppers and show the diversity of their work…
- 3 Pillars Music at 198 Water Street will kick off a three-day Third Anniversary Celebration. Visitors can enjoy a “wee nip” while listening to a rotation of well-known musicians. All weekend, special discounts will be available on vinyls, instruments and gear…
- Water Street Glassworks at 140 Water Street will conduct its “Spring Things” art sale. Visitors can make their own glass shamrock in the flat glass studio and a “pulled” flower in the Hot Shop…
- Sweet Bar by Mason Jar, which is right next door to Water Street Glassworks at 138 Water Street, will afford art hoppers the chance to welcome spring with scoops of gelato. Manager Emmie Hillhouse will display her nature and “Waiting to Hear” digital photography…
- The OutCenter at 132 Water Street will feature paintings by Michigan artist Ellen Nelson, curated by local artist Lea Bult…
- Phoenix Rising at 124 Water Street will showcase the art of the Lake Michigan College Ceramics Class as well as Works by George, up-cycled furniture and home accessories by Meredith George. This venue also offers a chance to learn more about a new local initiative to connect people interested in up-cycling, “cool junk” so less waste goes to the landfill…
- The Oak Room at the Citadel Dance and Music Center at 91 Hinkley is one of six Southwest Michigan sites for the 7th Annual Coastline Children’s Film Festival. At 5:30pm, art hoppers can watch short films entered in the 2017 Young Filmmakers Competition; learn this year’s winners at 6:30pm; and see two Irish silent films at 7:30 and 8:00pm. - The Livery at 190 Fifth Street will feature its brand of craft brews and food on this Irish holiday. Artwork by local legend, Brad Bigford, will be in the upper gallery.
