Work to improve Hall Park in Benton Harbor will now move forward following action by city commissioners Monday.
At their regular meeting, the city commission approved a contract with BG Construction and Engineering for Phase 1 of the Hall Park Restoration Project. Mayor Pro Tem Duane Seats read the resolution outlining some of the project’s scope.
“The project consists of the removal of the park’s existing basketball court and construction of two full-size basketball courts on a concrete pad with court lighting in ADA-compliant grades throughout,” Seats said.
The project will also include new retaining walls, the construction of an ADA-accessible trail system with a concrete sidewalk, and areas for park benches and trash bins.
The work is being funded with $576,000 obtained through a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Spark grant. The overall Spark grant awarded to the city was for $958,000.
