Benton Harbor business to be featured on ‘Worlds Greatest’ TV series

Every year, the “World’s Greatest!…” television series researches over 75,000 businesses and hundreds of industries across the world to determine which companies are the best of the best.

This summer, Benton Harbor-based manufacturing company Mar-Co Harbor Group will be featured on a 30-minute episode of the series’ 17th season, which airs online and on the Bloomberg television network.

The series features what it determines to be the world’s greatest companies, products, places, and people. Each show is a fast-paced tour around the world featuring behind the scenes footage, interviews, and visuals.

Established in 1985, Mar-Co has been a longtime presence in the converting industry. A source of packaging materials and laminated labels, the company produces products for a diverse array of customers from produce and dairy to construction and medical supplies.

“If you go to Meijer, all those labels hanging on the shelf come out of our facility,” said Mar-Co President Thomas Eversole, adding they print labels for Butterball Farms, Paramount Coffee, Rockwell Medical and more.

The company employs about 50 people in its 60,000 square foot facility at 1090 S. Crystal Avenue in Benton Township.

Eversole said he was surprised when he was contacted by contacted by show producers How 2 Media, and even more surprised to learn “World’s Greatest” has a large audience.

“We’re not one of the biggest packaging companies in the world,” said Eversole, on why Mar-Co was chosen. “But we’ve been in the packaging industry for 30 some years, and we also have another division that we do industrial and retail type label stocks, pressure sensor stocks that coincide with the packaging side. And it’s pretty unique. I don’t think there’s anybody else like that. We’ve also got some patents and some certificates and this and that …  they liked all that.

“Or maybe it’s just my charm. I don’t know.”

Eversole said the film crews will be coming to the facility on May 3, which is just in time to show off a new warehouse to expand the business and get the word out on a new piece of machinery.

“We definitely look at it as a growth opportunity for us,” Eversole said. “It’s kind of, kind of a neat situation cause we’re getting a new state of the art, $2 million press out of Germany that will triple our capacity. We’re pretty excited about the timing.”

Eversole said the company will be revamping its website in time for the show’s release in an effort to prepare for the potential increase in business.

The release date has not been set, but Eversole said producers told him the show would air this summer.  For more on the show, visit worldsgreatesttelevision.com. For more on Mar-Co, visit mar-coharborgroup.com.
