At its regular meeting Tuesday, Benton Charter Township approved the purchase of 486 trash carts and a new rear load trash truck for garbage collection throughout the township.
The trash carts will be purchased from Rehrig Pacific for $35,049.84, and the truck will be purchased from Fredrickson Supply for $233,127. Both purchases are a part of the 2023 township budget, according to Township Supervisor Cathy Yates.
Township Public Works Supervisor Andy Jordan said the reason they wanted to buy so many trash carts at once was so they didn’t have to continue buying them throughout the year. He said there will be one semi truck full of carts coming to the township.
The new collection truck will upgrade the township’s fleet of trucks, which are from 2012 and 2014, according to Jordan.
