Carlos Cubia is coming into the role from Walgreens Boots Alliance. BHSH tells us more:

BHSH System welcomes Carlos Cubia as its chief inclusion, equity, diversity and sustainability officer, effective June 30.

In this role, Cubia will be responsible for inspiring and defining the systemwide transformational and innovative inclusion, equity (inclusive of health equity), diversity and sustainability strategies to drive the organization toward its goals of transforming health for the communities it serves, improving health and health equity, and fostering a culture of belonging.

“With Carlos’ depth of relevant experience and track record of innovation, his leadership will further empower us to transform health for our communities,” said Tina Freese Decker, President & CEO of BHSH System. “I am proud of the important foundational work we have already done and the progress we have made toward building an inclusive, equitable and diverse organization focused on a culture of belonging. But, we recognize that this is a journey and we have much more work to do. This is why I am so excited for Carlos to join us.”

Cubia comes to BHSH System from Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA), where he has served as senior vice president, global chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer since 2017. In this role, he led the development and implementation of an enterprise-wide diversity and inclusion strategy for 400,000 employees in 17 countries. Prior to joining WBA, Cubia served in vice president roles at Covidien, Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Cubia has a Bachelor of Arts in social science and criminal justice from Michigan State University. He currently serves on the boards of the Chicago Urban League, The Chicago Sinfonietta, Hope Chicago and the National Diversity Council.

“Despite the life-altering impacts of COVID-19, systemic racism and social determinants that affect some people more than others, I see real promise,” said Carlos Cubia. “We know that if we are to succeed in helping people live healthier, happier lives, we must create a culture in which DE&I and health equity are at the center. I am honored to help develop and champion the strategies that will bring that about through BHSH System.”
