Big Pfizer Expansion in Portage to Drive 300 New Jobs

They’re doing an economic victory dance in Kalamazoo and Portage after a huge Pfizer expansion announcement today.   Pfizer leaders and Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced a $750 Million Dollar project at the Portage Pfizer plant that will create 300 permanent new fulltime jobs, in addition to hundreds of construction jobs.

The new Pfizer expansion will make the Portage facility one of the foremost vaccine production plants in the World and is in addition to rapid expansion that was driven by the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

As he prepares to leave office after 36 years in Congress, US Representative Fred Upton was exuberant about the Pfizer announcement:

“Pfizer has put Portage on the map, especially early on in the pandemic as nearly one billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were produced right here,” Upton said. “As variants continue to arise, we’ll continue to rely on medical breakthroughs, many of which have happened because of Pfizer’s investments in Southwest Michigan. And with this new investment, Pfizer will ensure Portage remains central to new pharmaceutical discoveries and advancement, and the ability to produce life-saving medicines for the world.”
