Work continues almost daily on the conversion of the long-time home of Stacy’s Grill in Benton Harbor to the new home of Big Shark’s Fish & Chicken and More.
The brilliant yellow and teal facade now sports the new signage for the restaurant which will be opening in the near future at the corner of Colfax and Napier in Benton Charter Township.
Since Stacy’s was vacated in mid-January, work has been undertaken to convert the diner for new owners who are relocating from several blocks away where they had originally opened across from Benton Harbor High School. The restaurant was forced to close when fire struck sometime last year, leaving the owners with the task of finding new quarters.
Big Shark’s Fish & Chicken and More had been anchored in a small building located at 125 E. Empire and had garnered a group of fans who enjoyed their fairly extensive menu of fish by the piece or in a variety of combo offerings, chicken by the piece or in a variety of combo offerings, nearly a dozen sides from fries and onion rings to cheese sticks, coleslaw, nachos and a lot more, kids’ meals and more than half a dozen desserts, beverages and more.
The Empire location had been open seven days a week, but attempts to reach the owners regarding the planned schedule for the new version of Big Shark’s have fallen short thus far. The work has been advancing quickly, so one can assume that as the pieces fall into place, the new restaurant will be open as soon as possible.
You’ll find Big Shark’s Fish & Chicken and More at 1699 Colfax Avenue, exactly one mile south of their old site, and the new phone number for the diner as posted on the signage is 269-934-5160. The Empire location offered delivery services, but whether that will carry over to the new site remains to be answered.
