Buchanan plans ‘pop up’ TASTE event this weekend to combat road construction woes

Amid substantial road construction, Buchanan businesses are reaching out to say, “It’s worth the little extra effort to visit downtown Buchanan!”

While the roads may be under construction, downtown Buchanan is very much open—and more delicious than ever! The City of Buchanan and the Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce have declared a ‘short notice pop up event’,  the “Taste of Buchanan”, taking place Saturday, June 14—a flavorful celebration of the city’s vibrant and resilient downtown dining scene.

Though not a traditional taste event in a single location, Taste of Buchanan is designed to showcase our amazing local restaurants and highlight how accessible and welcoming downtown remains—even amid construction.

The event is perfectly timed to coincide with two of Buchanan’s summer favorites: the bustling Farmers Market and the soulful Jazz & Blues Festival, making it the perfect day to eat, shop, and explore—all in one place. No hard hats required!

Participating Businesses:

  • Hilltop’s Creekside Café
  • Lehman’s Farmhouse Brewery
  • Union Coffee House

According to organizers, “Whether you’re craving coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a sweet treat, downtown Buchanan has your taste buds covered.” A special highlight for the day is the iconic sub shop Gary Z’s, which typically operates only from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday being open on a Saturday. For this occasion, however, Gary Z’s will be open as part of the community effort to showcase just how accessible downtown businesses remain during construction.

“We know construction can be an inconvenience for those coming downtown, but we wanted to be part of this effort to show people all the great places they can visit and things they can do with just a little extra effort,” said Mariah Molitor, owner of Gary Z’s.

“This is just the first of many fun events we’ll be hosting during construction,” said Buchanan Mayor Mark Weedon. “While infrastructure improvements are underway, we want the public to know our downtown and its businesses are alive, well, and very accessible. Great things are coming—and we’re not letting a little dust stop the fun.” Getting here is easier than you think!
