Buchanan Senior Center Launches Senior Wednesdays Amid Downtown Construction

Buchanan Sr. Citizen Ctr

The Buchanan Area Senior Center (BASC) has launched a new promotion called Senior Wednesdays to encourage support of local businesses during this year of extensive infrastructure construction downtown. BASC President Deborah Hendrix commented, “Our businesses create memories and strengthen community living,  so we hope our effort will help businesses weather the construction disruptions.”

To date, over 20 businesses have signed on to the program that encourages older adults (60+) to patronize the businesses on Wednesdays by offering special perks.  Check out the full list at www.thebasc.org/seniorwednesdays . To take advantage of the promotion, just mention it while dining or shopping at the business.

BASC Executive Director Adam Burck explains that despite the major street construction, you can access downtown businesses by following the detour signs. Officials advise tthat you may pass by signs saying “no through traffic” to access the parking lots, and despite some roads temporarily being dirt during construction, you can still drive on them.  While these sorts of projects are disruptive, much of the community looks forward to the benefits from the new infrastructure and creation of a “festival street” on the downtown portion of Buchanan’s Front Street.

Current information on the project is available at https://www.cityofbuchanan.com/city-manager/page/downtown-reconstruction-project-updates .
