Campaign for Bridgman Body Cams a Success

Early last month you may recall that we shared the story of a fundraising effort in the community of Bridgman to obtain body cameras for the police officers of that city. Thanks to the generosity of the business community and a number of citizens, the effort was a resounding success and the Bridgman Police Department was able to purchase half a dozen of the specialized body cameras to be worn by officers on duty.

Bridgman Police Chief Dan Unruh is especially grateful for both the donors and the online effort at BodyCameraDonations.com which helps facilitate public donations toward Police Body Cameras to law enforcement agencies all across the nation, including his own team here in Michigan's Great Southwest.

In fact, the Bridgman Police Department was one of the first police agencies nationwide to work with the online provider to successfully obtain the funding for the six new body cameras. The goal was actually achieved in just eight short days once the partnership was established.

The cameras were successfully delivered to the Bridgman Police team this week and officers in the department have begun training in the use and maintenance of the new resource tools.

Chief Unruh says, "It's unfortunate that we live and work in a culture that requires 'extra' measures, but with the outpouring of support from donors both in and outside of our community, these cameras will help with the safety of our officers and the community."

Bridgman Police Sgt. Tom LaVanway is shown in the photo accompanying this story on Moody on the Market.com wearing one of the body cameras on the front of his uniform shirt.
