It’s another one of those ‘end of an era’ stories!
Several hundred well wishers have already shared congratulations & good memories for the Capozio family after they announced that the final remaining ‘Capozio’s’ would disappear after this coming weekend. The restaurant at 13982 Red Arrow Highway, Harbert, shared the news directly and briefly on Facebook:
This will be our last weekend as Capozio’s. We’ve sold the restaurant to a wonderful local couple who plan to keep it a restaurant, though it will no longer be Capozio’s. We hope you’ll stop by so we can say goodbye in person. Thank you for 35 incredible years.
Historically, there were at least three Capozio’s restaurants in Southwest Michigan over the past 30-40 years, and restaurant heritage extending much earlier than that. In the 80’s M-139 in Benton Harbor, Niles Avenue in St. Joseph and Red Arrow Highway in Harbert all had a Capozio’s. And the family brand was a popular name going back at least to the 60’s.
Capozio’s pizza, Italian specialty and sandwich recipes are legendary. Social media will surely debate where those recipes, or close copies, end up in the future!
There was no immediate word on the identity of the buyers of the Harbert restaurant, nor their plans going forward.
