Cass Family Clinic is providing workforce training opportunities to those seeking a career in the healthcare industry thanks to a grant from Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.
The Health Center Career Training Program, operated by the Michigan Primary Care Association, provides participants with one-year online and hands-on technical assistance, resources, and program monitoring. The grant, which is effective through the end of 2026, covers operational costs per cohort, as well as individual trainee funding based upon each student’s program completion.
Cass Family Clinic offers medical assistant, dental assistant, community health worker and pharmacy technician training programs at its Cass and Niles locations. Two positions are available per field with one at each location. Upon completing the training program, students earn a certification in their respective field, which they can use to apply for a job at Cass Family Clinic or with another organization.
“At Cass Family Clinic, strengthening the healthcare workforce is essential to strengthening the communities we serve,” said Cass Family Clinic CEO Joe Gavan. “With support from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, and the Michigan Primary Care Association, we’re creating pathways into meaningful healthcare careers while ensuring our region has the skilled professionals needed to deliver high-quality care close to home.”
Tiara Brown, who is currently enrolled in Cass Family Clinic’s dental assistant training program, joined as a way to jumpstart a career in dentistry.
“Being a dental assistant can be challenging, but every day is a learning experience at Cass Family Clinic,” said Brown. “I appreciate the doctors, assistants, and interns who are willing to answer all of my questions. There is plenty of opportunity for growth within Cass Family Clinic.”
Katie Simpson, who is completing her pharmacy technician training, shared she was grateful for the opportunity to train for her license while continuing to work at the same time.
“The learning and training I received at Cass Family Clinic have provided me with great resources for my career path in healthcare,” Simpson said. “I had a great experience and highly recommend it to others who are interested. I hope it continues to be an opportunity for people like me in the future.”
