The Center for Growth and Independence in Benton Harbor will host its 39th annual Softball Fundraiser on July 25 at Eaton Park, continuing a long-running summer tradition in Southwest Michigan in a new location.
The center says the bribe-style softball game invites community members to donate to influence what happens on the field, with contributions earning extra runs, surprise outs, or fun twists like players wearing flippers or costumes. Proceeds from the event support the organization’s mission of promoting inclusion and independence for individuals with disabilities and others facing barriers to community living.
Center for Growth and Independence Director Tami Gould says the fundraiser is designed to reflect the organization’s values by creating an inclusive event where people of all abilities can participate.
Formerly known as GateWay Services, the Center for Growth and Independence has served the region since 1972, providing job support, assistance with daily living, and respite care for caregivers across Berrien, Cass, Van Buren, and Kalamazoo counties.
Although the softball game isn’t until July, teams and sponsors can sign up now to be among the first o take part in the event’s new location.
