Children’s Music Workshop is bringing a beloved Broadway favorite back to the local stage this summer, as TeenStock—their troupe of 34 dedicated teen performers—presents Into the Woods in a full-scale production at the John and Dede Howard Auditorium at St. Joseph High School.
This marks the first local staging of Into the Woods in nearly ten years, and the return promises to be magical. Under the co-direction of Robert Elliott-Schafnitz and Erika Goodman Osborn, with musical direction by Nicole Mitchell, the show weaves together familiar fairy tales—Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, and more—into a darkly whimsical journey exploring what happens after “happily ever after.”
Performed entirely by Southwest Michigan youth ages 12 to 20, the production not only showcases outstanding vocal and dramatic talent, but also celebrates the hard work, heart, and dedication of the region’s next generation of performers.
“We are thrilled to bring this classic back to the community,” said Jim Tyler, Board President of Children’s Music Workshop. “Sondheim’s music and lyrics are famously challenging, and our cast has risen to the occasion with incredible discipline and enthusiasm. It’s a show for all ages—filled with humor, heart, and depth.”
Performances will take place at the John and Dede Howard Auditorium, at St. Joseph High School, 2521 Stadium Drive in St. Joseph, on the following dates:
- Thursday, July 10 at 7:00 p.m.
- Friday, July 11 at 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m.
- Sunday, July 13 at 3:00 p.m.
