Citadel Dance & Music Center to present “Fly Me to the Moon LEGENDS” September 6

The Citadel Dance & Music Center will host its annual fundraiser, Fly Me to the Moon LEGENDS, on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. in the Grand Upton Hall at the Mendel Center.

Since 2019, the event has highlighted the golden era of jazz with music connected to Frank Sinatra. This year, the program will celebrate the legacy of Quincy Jones, the arranger, producer, and longtime Sinatra collaborator.

The evening will feature performances by the Lake Effect Jazz Big Band, vocalists Andrew Fisher and Rebecca Selvidge, the Citadel Dance Companies, Citadel Strings, and the LMC Vox Jazz Choir. Doors open at 7 p.m., with a cash bar and small plates available for purchase.

The Lake Effect Jazz Big Band, led by Steven Reed, includes 22 musicians from Northwest Indiana and Southwest Michigan and performs more than 10 concerts each year. Fisher, a Citadel voice instructor, is a frequent area performer, while Selvidge is director of choirs and music lecturer at Lake Michigan College.

The event is sponsored by the Cook Nuclear Plant, Quarternote Lofts, Quinlan & Fabish, Rogers Foodland, Sturgis Bank St. Joseph, Wales Wealth Management, and individual donors. Tickets are available at citadeldancemusic.ludas.com.

The Citadel Dance & Music Center is a nonprofit located in the Benton Harbor Arts District. The organization provides year-round dance and music instruction to nearly 300 students and seeks to inspire appreciation for the performing arts.
