A benefit concert will be held in Paw Paw this fall to support research into Huntington’s Disease. It will be held at Paw Paw Brewing Company on November 13, organized by Champions for HD. The group told us more about the event:
Champions for HD will host their fourth annual Benefit Concert on Thursday, November 13th at Paw Paw Brewing Company from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Champions for HD is a nonprofit that supports research efforts for Huntington’s Disease, as well as families affected by it. In 2019, the event raised over $6,000. This year, the goal is to raise $8,000.
The nonprofit’s founder and president, Shelby Lentz, has watched Huntington’s Disease — equivalent to having ALS, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s simultaneously– affect three of her family members, and received her own diagnosis in 2017. In April of 2020, the juvenile version of the disease took the life of her younger sister, Breanna, at only 14.
“I wanted to take a negative situation and turn it into something positive and powerful,” Lentz said. “The greatest thing about the HD community is we are so supportive. Through Champions for HD, I want to make sure no one fights this disease alone.”
This family-friendly concert includes dinner by Paw Paw Brewing, which can be pre-ordered with your ticket purchase. The night will also include live music, drinks, a silent auction and more. Proceeds will aid HD research and HD families, locally and across the country, helping turn Shelby’s dream of no one fighting this disease alone into a reality.
Tickets & dinner orders for the event can be purchased online at championsforhd.org/events. General admission is $20 a ticket and dinner is $18 per meal. Orders must be placed online no later than November 11th. Champions for HD is still looking for event sponsorships.
