County Board Orders Flags to Half-Staff

The Berrien County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution this morning announcing that flags at all County facilities would be flown at half-staff until sunset, July 18, 2016 as a mark of respect for the bravery and valor of Berrien County Court Officers Ronald Kienzle and Joseph Zangaro.  The resolution asks the same of all government offices as well as all other appropriate venues.

The unanimous resolution reads as follows:

The Honorable Board of Commissioners of Berrien County, Michigan does hereby order that the flags of the United States and the State of Michigan shall be flown at half-staff upon all County buildings and grounds, and requests the same for all government offices, as well as all other appropriate venues within the County until sunset, July 18, 2016 as a statement of condolence for the victims of the cowardly acts and heinous crimes perpetrated on Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Berrien County Courthouse and as a mark of respect for the bravery and valor of Court Officers Ronald Kienzle and Joseph Zangaro.

The resolution was physically signed by Debra Panozzo, Mamie Yarbrough, R. McKinely Elliott, William Chickering, Andrew Vavra, William Smith, Jim Curran, Teri Sue Freehling, Marletta Seats, John Klimek, Jeanette Leahy, and Board Chairman Jon Hinklelman.

Any business in the county that would like to follow suit is certainly welcome, and encouraged, to do so.
